Blackbutt Natural

Blackbutt Natural is the calmest of the Australian species decors in this range. Real Blackbutt is a pale, fairly uniform hardwood — golden-yellow through to soft honey-brown, with straight grain and only occasional gum vein — and the decor reproduces that evenness faithfully.

That low contrast is why it is the easiest board here to live with across a whole house. It does not fight with anything, it does not dominate a small room, and it runs continuously through a hallway into open-plan living without the floor becoming the loudest thing in the space.

It is also a genuinely Peninsula-appropriate choice. Blackbutt is the hardwood sitting under the carpet in a great many postwar houses through Frankston, Seaford and the bayside suburbs, so a Blackbutt-look floor reads as native to the area rather than imported. In a house where some rooms have original Blackbutt boards and the wet areas need a waterproof floor, this decor gets the two surfaces closer than any other option in the range.

The pale tone brightens a room and makes it feel larger, which suits the modest floor plans and lower ceilings common in that era of house. Practically, the light even colour hides dust well but shows dark grit more than a high-contrast decor like Spotted Gum Natural.
