Peninsula Oak Collection

The Peninsula Oak Collection is our everyday European Oak floor — the range we specify most often when a client wants real timber underfoot without the seasonal movement that solid boards bring to a Peninsula home.

Construction starts with an eight-layer multi-ply core. Each layer is laid cross-directionally to the one beneath it, so the tension that makes solid timber cup and gap in changing humidity is cancelled out within the board itself. Onto that core sits a 2mm sliced European Oak veneer. Two millimetres is a genuine wear layer, not a printed decor: it is real oak with real grain, and it carries enough depth to be sanded back and recoated later in the floor's life rather than replaced.

The boards run 1900mm long and 190mm wide at 14mm total thickness. That width matters more than it sounds. Wide boards mean fewer seams across a room, and in the open-plan living areas common through Frankston and Mount Eliza that reads as a calmer, less busy floor. The micro-bevel along each edge gives every board a clean shadow line so the joins look deliberate instead of accidental.

The surface is a matte embossed finish. Embossing follows the grain rather than sitting flat across it, which does two useful things: it gives the floor a slight texture underfoot, and it scatters light so the fine scratches that accumulate in any active household do not catch the eye the way they do on a gloss floor. Matte is also far more forgiving of dust and footprints between cleans.

Installation is flexible. The drop-lock click profile allows a floating installation over an acoustic underlay, which is quicker and lets the floor be lifted later, or a direct-stick bond to the subfloor for maximum acoustic solidity and a firmer feel underfoot. Both are supported by the same board — the choice comes down to the subfloor, the acoustic requirement and whether the floor sits over a slab or a bearer-and-joist frame.

The floor carries a P3 slip rating and a 5-star acoustic rating, and is backed by a 30-year residential warranty alongside a lifetime structural warranty on the core.

This range suits family homes, rental properties being brought up to standard, and any renovation where the floor needs to look considered but earn its keep. It is not the most heavily textured oak we carry — if you want pronounced wire-brushed grain, look at the Noble Oak Collection — but for a warm, even, hard-wearing oak floor across a whole house, it is the sensible starting point.
