Noble Oak Collection

Noble Oak is the most heavily specified floor we carry and the range to look at when the floor itself is meant to be one of the reasons the room works.

The construction figure that matters is the veneer: 3mm of European Oak over an eight-layer multi-ply core, at 14.5mm total thickness. Three millimetres is a substantial wear layer by any standard. It means the floor can be sanded back and refinished more than once over its life, which changes the economics — this is a floor to be maintained across decades rather than replaced, and the lifetime structural warranty on the core reflects that intention.

The surface is where the money shows. The boards are wire-brushed, a process that drags the softer early-wood out of the grain and leaves the harder late-wood standing slightly proud. The result is a floor with real texture underfoot and a grain you can see and feel rather than one printed flat under a coating. Over that go eight to ten coats of UV-cured lacquer, finished to a 20% gloss level — matte enough to avoid any plasticky sheen, with just enough reflectance to give the timber depth. Multiple thin coats build a more resilient surface than a couple of thick ones, and the difference is visible at the edges where a cheaper floor shows coating build-up.

The grade is Classic, and it is important to understand what that means before ordering. Classic grade permits natural knots, filled defects, sound heartwood and genuine board-to-board colour variation. These are not faults. They are the reason the floor looks like timber rather than laminate, and a floor of perfectly uniform boards would be a different and less interesting product. If you want minimal variation, the Peninsula Oak Collection is the calmer choice.

At 1360 LBF on the Janka scale, European Oak is comfortably hard enough for residential use and sits behind the dense Australian eucalypts. Boards run 1900 × 190mm with a bevelled edge, and the collection uses a traditional tongue-and-groove profile — direct stick to the subfloor, or float over a high-density acoustic underlay.

Slip and acoustic ratings are not published for this range and are shown as confirm-on-enquiry rather than estimated. If the floor is going into a project with a specified acoustic requirement, ask us before ordering and we will get the figure in writing.

This is the range to choose when the floor is part of the design rather than a background to it: architect-specified renovations, high-end extensions, and homes where the owner intends to keep the floor for the life of the house. Use it anywhere except bathrooms and laundries.
