Coastal Estate

Coastal Estate is the most conventional floor in this collection and the one that reads least "coastal" in the decorative sense. It is a warm mid-brown oak — the colour most people picture when they picture an oak floor — and its place in a coastal palette is as the grounding tone rather than the statement.

That is genuinely useful. A house done entirely in pale greys and whitewashes can end up feeling washed out, particularly in winter light when there is no sun to lift it. A warm mid-oak floor gives the palette a base to sit on and keeps the rooms feeling like a home rather than a display.

The wire-brushed grain shows clearly at this tone — enough colour depth for the recessed early-wood to read darker than the raised grain, so the floor has visible texture and movement across every board.

It is the most versatile board here by some distance. It works in a bayside house alongside white walls and linen, and it works equally well in a suburban home with no coastal reference at all. If you are laying a floor through a whole house and want one colour that will not date or fight with future decorating decisions, this is the safe and sensible pick.

Mid-tones are also the least demanding floors to keep. Dust does not show the way it does on dark boards, dark grit does not show the way it does on pale ones.
