Seaside Grey

Seaside Grey is a weathered grey oak — the colour of timber that has spent a few seasons in salt air rather than the flat grey of a stain applied over the top. Enough brown shows through to keep the board reading as wood, and the wire-brushed grain gives the grey somewhere to sit so it never looks painted.

It is the most recognisably coastal board in the collection and the one that most directly evokes a jetty plank or a weatherboard that has silvered off. In a house with a water view it does something specific and worthwhile: it picks up the greys already in the outlook — water, sky, the underside of tea-tree — and brings them inside, so the floor connects to the view rather than competing with it.

It suits white and soft grey walls, pale stone, natural fibre rugs and the blues and sage greens common in Peninsula holiday homes. It also sits well with black window frames, where the cool floor and dark joinery read as a deliberate pairing.

Practically it is one of the easier floors here. The mid-depth grey is dark enough to disguise tracked-in sand and light enough that dust does not accumulate visibly — a genuinely sensible combination for a beach house that gets used hard over summer and sits empty through winter.
