Australian Blackbutt

Australian Blackbutt is the pale, even board in this range — a Blackbutt-look decor in soft golden-honey with the straight, fairly uniform grain that makes the real species such an unfussy floor over a large area.

Low contrast is what makes it work across a whole property. There is no strong colour swing between boards, so it runs continuously through a hallway, living area and kitchen as one calm surface. It brightens rooms and makes compact floor plans feel larger, which suits the modest room sizes of the postwar houses common through Frankston and Seaford.

It is also the most contextually appropriate decor here. Blackbutt is the hardwood already sitting under the carpet in a great many Peninsula homes of that era, so this floor reads as native to the area rather than imported. In a rental or investment property where some rooms have original boards, it is the decor that sits closest to them.

The pale even colour hides dust well and shows dark grit more than a high-contrast board would — the standard trade-off with any light floor.

At 6mm this is the slimmest board we carry, which makes it a practical choice where the new floor has to meet existing tiled areas or an existing timber floor without a significant step.
